Level Notes This takes place aboard a modern U.S. aircraft carrier.
My knowledge of carriers is derived from my service with
VAW-11 aboard the Kitty Hawk CVA-63, 1965-66. My cruise
book came in handy. This is not a very serious attempt
at an exact model but rather a test run at doing a more
serious attempt with Shadow Warrior (which has not yet
been released). It looks like the scale of Duke Nukem
3D is about 18 inches per square in the third grid
resolution. If anyone has better information on this,
please let me know. At this scale the maximum length
that can be done is about 770 feet. Since the carrier
is about 1000 feet, I chpoped about 230 feet off the bow.
A carrier has about 4000 spaces and I have recreated no
more than 100. Perhaps I should have done a DE.
I have never been in the boiler/machinery spaces so I
let my imagination run wild. On my SLC 66MHz 486 I have
kept the frame rate to at least 7 fps. It is the slowest
on the hanger deck so I wasn't able to do as much there
as I would have liked. There are some visual glitches
on the flight deck and in the water because DN3D was not
intended to create large open spaces. There is no under-
water. I have not yet bothered to learn tags so the only
one used is on the exit button. Closed doors cannot be
opened. There is no freezer weapon since it will lock up
the game if fired in large open areas in Duke match.
A simular problem exists with tripbombs so the only ones
are those I set as traps. Hopefully the devastator won't
be a problem in open spaces. The decks are numbered as
they are on real carriers. The hanger deck is deck 1.
Deck 2 is directly below deck 1 and so on down to deck 6.
One deck up from deck 1 is deck 01 up to deck 07. Since
the hangar deck is 3 decks high, the deck above the
hangar deck is deck 03. The flight deck is 04. 05-07 are
in the island. Note to land lubbers: the bunks are 3
high.

suport it) and the U.S. Navy. Thanks to play testers
